Avondale is home to two proud Polish districts in Jackwowo and Waclawowo. While these communities grew as a result of the industrialization of the area at the turn of the 20th century, increased immigration also occurred during the Solidarity movement in Poland during the 1980s. While a strong Polish presence remains, if you drive down Milwaukee avenue today you will see a wide range of ethnic shops and resturants.

While there has been an influx of young urban professionals into the area in recent years, real estate prices in Avondale have remained somewhat reasonable. Median home prices in Avondale are $215,000 and $251,000 for single-family homes and condominiums respectively.
