Calumet Heights is a southside Chicago community located 11 miles from the Loop. It is named after the nearby Calumet River and a limestone ridge that runs through the area. It is a solidly middle-class neighborhood of well-maintained homes and landscaped yards. The area also includes Pill Hill, an affluent district that was named after the many doctors and medical workers from a nearby hospital that reside there. You will find many large, classic Chicago homes located in Pill Hill.

Calumet Heights is an excellent place to buy a first home. The area has an almost suburban feel and the homes are reasonably priced. There are typically numerous houses on the market at any given time but condominium units are rare.
