Clearing is a strip of residential properties located just south of Midway Airport on the west side of Chicago. The area gets its name from a time when farm goods from the area were "cleared" (delivered) through the railroad yards and into the city and beyond.
The east end of Clearing is known as Chrysler Village. Numerous homes were constructed in this area near Lawler Park during World War II to house Chrysler Corporation workers building B29 Bomber engines in a nearby plant.
Real estate prices in the Clearing neighborhood have remained somewhat stable during the recent economic downturn. Median home prices for both Clearing condominiums and single-family homes are presented in the table below.
