It is named after a street car that traveled a circular route around the area in the early 1900s, the predecessor to today's Loop elevated train. Next to the Magnificent Mile, the Loop is probably second in the city in terms of shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. A vibrant theatre district and easy access to Millennium Park and the Museum Campus makes the Loop the cultural center of Chicago.

Over the past 15 years there has been an explosion in residential real estate activity in the Loop. What started out as the renovation of existing vintage condominiums has led to a boom in new high-rise construction. As real estate prices rose dramatically around 2005, construction projects increased especially in the area know as the South Loop just west of Soldier Field.
