Get Cash at Closing When Purchasing in Aurora, IL

With an estimated 2008 population of more than 170,000, far-western suburban Aurora is the second largest city in Illinois. This is probably surprising to many people outside of Illinois since Aurora is probably best know as the home of Wayne Campbell and Garth Brooks in the 1992 movie "Wayne's World". Way!

What started as a manufacturing, industrial, and railroad powerhouse throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, like most rust-belt cities, Aurora fell on hard times beginning in the 1970's. When the Burlington railroad shops closed in 1974 other industies followed causing high unemployment and high rates of crime. Many of the of the once proud theater and hotel venues were shuttered or demolished and the downtown area became a haven for gangs and other social problems.

But the people of Aurora have done an excellent job of adapting to the then new realities of the 20th century. While some industries still remain such as Catepillar, during the 1990's the area became more diverse marked by large shopping centers, a downtown casino, the Illinois High-Technology Corridor and a boom in real estate construction. The old Burlington railroad roundhouse is now a restaurant owned by the late Chicago Bear Walter Payton. Improved policing efforts have reduced crime since 2000 and Aurora is once again attracting many families to its affordable housing and excellent services.
